Mapping the D/H of water on Mars using high-resolution spectroscopy
نویسندگان
چکیده
The preferential escape of the lighter isotope of hydrogen controls the global (D/H)H2O abundance ratio and comparison of the present abundance ratio with escape models provides an estimate of the amount of water lost over time. Earlier measurements reported a global atmospheric enrichment (D/H) of five times the mean terrestrial ocean value (VSMOW). Because of HDO and H2O different vapor pressures, the local (D/H)H2O is strongly dependent on the local temperature. Therefore, in order to locate the sources of water on Mars and their true D/H spatially resolved measurements are needed.

Infrared imaging spectroscopy of Mars: H2O mapping and determination of CO2 isotopic ratios
High-resolution infrared imaging spectroscopy of Mars has been achieved at the NASA Infrared Telescope Facility (IRTF) on June 19– 21, 2003, using the Texas Echelon Cross Echelle Spectrograph (TEXES). The areocentric longitude was 206◦. Following the detection and mapping of hydrogen peroxide H2O2 [Encrenaz et al., 2004. Icarus 170, 424–429], we have derived, using the same data set, a map of t...
متن کاملWater vapor map of Mars near summer solstice using ground-based infrared spectroscopy
Ground-based spatial mapping of Mars provides a unique way to retrieve the global distribution of minor atmospheric species and to study transient phenomena or possible variations with the local hour. We have obtained an instantaneous map of water vapor on Mars near summer solstice (Ls = 80◦) using the Texas Echelon Cross Echelle Spectrograph (TEXES) at the NASA Infrared Telescope Facility (IRT...

Desertification refers to land degradation phenomenon in arid, semi-arid and dry sub-humid areas, resulting from various factors including climate variation and human activities. For evaluation and mapping of desertification many research have been conducted leading to regional and local models. In this research, among different existing methods IMDPA was selected and desertification intensity...

The High Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC) on board of the European space mission Mars Express provides multispectral digital image data in high resolution as well as the systematic stereo coverage of our neighbouring planet. Thus, these data particularly meet the requirements of stereophotogrammetric processing and cartographic applications. Based on HRSC imagery, large-scale topographic and the...
